When you think of Trojan vibrators probably aren’t the first thing to pop into your head. Trojan is best known for condoms and for good reason – they’ve been making them for over 90 years. Trojan got into the vibrator market a few years back and has now expanded into the “luxury” vibrator market with their Midnight Collection. The Midnight Collection is their regular line of toys redone in deep purple colors. I’m not sure if there’s much of a difference other than that and possibly the included pouch. The website doesn’t mention anything about increased power on the Midnight Collection or other enhanced features.
WHAT IT IS
I received the Trojan Compact 3.3 in the Midnight Collection from Babeland. The Compact 3.3 is a pocket rocket style vibrator with a silicone tip. It’s used for external stimulation. It should not be inserted vaginally or anally. I find the best place to use it is on my clit, but you’re not limited to that. You could use it on any external area you’d like vibration. Since pocket rockets are usually “discreetly” packaged as neck massagers you could even try it that way. It’s small enough to be used during sex, though not as small and out of the way as a bullet would be.
MATERIAL
The Compact 3.3 is made of plastic and silicone. For information about the safety and care of these materials, check out the Material Guide. Note that only water based lubes should be used with this toy. It should not be boiled or placed in the dishwasher due to the motor.
The silicone used is listed as medical grade. It is smooth on the top and ribbed on the sides. It has a lot of drag to it which creates resistance both to the touch and in use. This is something I tend to prefer in a clit vibe but may not be a plus to everyone. Lube will take away the resistance if that’s not your thing.
The silicone is placed over a hard inner (I assume plastic) core. The silicone itself is somewhat pliable. I can push the ribbing inward and get it to flatten. The overall feel is hard due to the inner plastic core but the silicone wrap softens the feel in use.
The plastic is matte with a sheen to it. It feels more velvety than a glossy plastic. Like all plastic, it is hard and unyielding. This part is just the handle and won’t be touching the body.
TEXTURE AND DESIGN
Compact 3.3 looks very similar to most pocket rockets. It tapers down in size as it gets close to the end of the handle. Most pocket rockets stay about the same size all the way down so this is a slight difference in design.
The tip of Compact 3.3 is what’s done in silicone. This is the part that touches the body. The very top of the tip is smooth but the sides are ribbed. The ribs increase in size as they get closer to the middle of the toy. They also get farther apart. They are raised only slightly.
When I used this on its side I didn’t really notice any difference from using it straight on. There was a minor difference in feel due to the texture. The texture is raised such a small amount that it’s hard to distinguish unless you’re really paying attention.
SIZE
Compact 3.3 is indeed compact. It’s 4.75″ in total length. The diameter at the widest point of the tip is 1 1/8″. The circumference is 3.5″. The size is a bit longer than my middle finger. If held to the tip of my finger it comes down about an inch past it.
The size of Compact 3.3 works very well in use. It’s long enough that you don’t feel like you’re cramped up against your body but not so big that you feel like you’re a mile away. It’s a bit too big for me to want to use during sex but you could probably get away with using it that way if you’re less picky than me about the size of toys to be used during sex.
The small end for a handle looks sleek but does cause a little bit of cramping in the hand if you hold it too long. It’s nothing terrible just something of note.
OPERATING THE COMPACT 3.3
To work the Compact 3.3 you will need one AA battery. Luckily one is included with the vibrator. The top unscrews from the bottom to reveal the battery compartment.
There is a single button at the very bottom of the handle. It has the power symbol on it. To turn on press the button once. To cycle through the patterns press it again. To turn it off hold the button for about three seconds.
The button is easy to press and use. I never accidentally hit it due to its location.
VIBRATIONS AND PATTERNS
The Compact 3.3 is called 3.3 because it has 3 power settings and 3 patterns. Clever, right? The first three are the constant vibrations and the last three are the patterns.
The first constant vibration operates at about 2/5 intensity. The second is a mid 3/5 intensity. The third is a bit debatable. It could be a high 3 or a very low 4. I’m gonna round down on this and go with the 3/5 because I just don’t think there’s quite that extra oomph to make me want to push it to the 4/5 category.
The vibrations are midway between buzzy and rumbly. They cause some numbing and itching on my hand but not in use. They sound like they are midway even. I can hear a low rumble and then a higher pitched buzz in the vibrations.
The first pattern is a wave that cycles through the power levels. The second is a moderately fast pulse. The third is an off pace pulse that goes bzz-bzz-bzz-BZZ (if that makes sense).
I gotta say that even though I’m not willing to push it to the 4/5 level I am pretty impressed with the vibrations. I think I expected them to be very weak so the moderately high vibrations were surprising. It’s not enough to bring me to orgasm unfortunately.
Another note is that the vibrations are on the louder side. They aren’t so loud that it was distracting. Well, maybe a little distracting. It’s not the loudest thing ever but it’s not exactly quiet either. It reminds me of one of those cell phones that has an obnoxiously loud vibrate mode.
SPECIAL FEATURES
Compact 3.3 is listed as “water resistant” which I take to mean the same thing as splash proof. It says it is safe to take in the shower. That means not the tub. It doesn’t have an O ring. It has one of those confusing puzzle like battery compartments that are intended to keep out water. I would say it’s safe to wash so long as you’re careful to avoid getting too much water on it. I would recommend using wipes or spray if you can just to be safe.
PACKAGING
The Compact 3.3 comes in a purple box to match the purple coloring of the toy. The 3.3 is visible through a clear cutout in the center of the box. The front says “Trojan Vibrations Midnight Collection Compact 3.3″ with “Intense Pleasure Compact Size 3 Speeds + 3 Pulse 1 Multi-Speed Massager” near the bottom. The back has a picture of the Compact 3.3 and has a blurb about the toy and what it does. It lists the main features of the toy.
The packaging is not discreet due to the visibility of the toy and the wording. The packaging clearly indicates the purpose of the Compact 3.3.
It does include a nice little black pouch for storage. It’s drawstring to make sure the toy doesn’t fall out. It’s small in size – just large enough to hold the Compact 3.3 with a little extra space.
COMPACT 3.3 EXPERIENCE
I really liked the purple color of Compact 3.3 but honestly I pretty much expected the vibrations wouldn’t be very good. My curiosity was killing me and I just had to see if the Trojan “luxury” collection would compare to my well known luxury brands. There’s things I really like about the Compact 3.3 and things I’m not so fond of.
One of the things I’ve never liked about pocket rockets is that they’re made of plastic. I have my clit pierced and the plastic banging up against the metal can be uncomfortable at best and downright painful at worst. Silicone materials tend to work better for me since the softer material doesn’t bang up against the metal. The Compact 3.3 solves that problem for me. It’s a pocket rocket with a silicone tip – yay! The silicone has a nice amount of drag, something I don’t like for insertables but do like for external toys. I also like the size of this because I don’t feel like I’m right up on myself when I use it. I have some distance and wiggle room which I like.
The problem comes in with the vibrations. I need strong vibrations and these sadly weren’t enough to do anything for me. They didn’t feel bad. In fact, they were pretty pleasurable. They just couldn’t bring me to orgasm no matter how hard I tried. I could get somewhere in the range of orgasm sometimes but never actually there.
Then there’s the price. The going price of the Compact 3.3 is $49.00. That’s a lot for a battery operated pocket rocket. I have stronger ones with more settings that cost around $25. I’m not sure that the inclusion of a silicone tip and pouch is worth the extra $25. You can get some around this power level for $15 (also minus the silicone tip and pouch).
RECOMMENDATION
Here’s the thing – I can see this working really well for people who need moderate power levels and want a softer touch than a traditional pocket rocket offers. I hesitate to recommend it for those people given the price point. It’s very hard for me to justify $50 on a battery operated pocket rocket just because it has some silicone on it. Perhaps the purple plastic costs more or something. I have no idea. When there are so many options out there at this power level for much cheaper it’s hard to tell anyone to spend the money on this without there being something really spectacular about it. It’s not rechargeable. It’s not waterproof. The silicone is nice but not super luxury level nice. The special something just isn’t there to warrant the huge price jump from other options.
IN CONCLUSION
I liked the Compact 3.3. I liked the silicone tip a lot actually. The vibrations didn’t suck as much as I thought they would and are a little above average level. For all the positives of this it still can’t make me orgasm. Thus I cannot give this full marks.
Rating: 3/5

Awfully big for a “compact”. This entire line seems pretty large.
Yeah the one with the interchangeable heads is even bigger I think. None of them are particularly tiny.
