FOU and UFO are the newest releases from German based Fun Factory. They are available exclusively from this sex toy store. The UFO wasn’t out yet when FOU popped up so my decision on which one to get was made for me by timing. I probably would have picked this one out of the two anyhow because the little cut out intrigued me. I’m a big fan of Fun Factory products and was very excited about a new release from them.
WHAT IT IS
Well, that seems to be the question of the day. It’s listed as a clitoral vibrator and my assumption is that is its main purpose. On the box it has a picture of a female with the areas you can use it highlighted – clit, nipples, neck, back, and fingers(?). I can tell you it’s definitely not made for vaginal or anal insertion. I got this with the intention of using the cut out to go on either side of my clit. I don’t know who is shopping sex sites for back massagers, but I guess if you happen to be doing that then you could maybe use this for that purpose.
FOU is waterproof and rechargeable. It can go from bathroom to bedroom with you.
MATERIAL
FOU is made of silicone. To read about the safety and care of silicone you can check out the Material Guide. It is worth mentioning again that while silicone itself can be boiled or placed in a dishwasher, you cannot do that with this toy. It has a motor in it and doing either of these things will likely destroy the motor.
The silicone is (I’m guessing) wrapped around a core on the inside. It’s a little hard to tell because the silicone wrapping is very thick and I can’t quite make out the shape or size of the inner parts of the toy. The thick silicone wrap is squishy and soft. It’s similar to the silicone used in the MiniVibe collection (Spring, Bimini Flash, Bubbbles, etc.) The main part of the FOU cannot change shape but the cutout can. Since it’s just the thick silicone with no core, it can be bent and even twisted.
The silicone has a lot of drag to it, which I always consider to be a good thing on an external toy. If you don’t like that aspect, water based lube will take care of it.
FOU collects lint/dust/anything it touches. It’s like a little lint roller. Check out the pictures in this review. They were all taken within ten minutes of opening the package and you can see the lint build up on it as the pictures go on. This is one you’ll want to wash before and after use.
So the material is the first major issue with FOU. While I love this silicone on the MiniVibes, it doesn’t work on FOU for me. The motor doesn’t have enough power to get through the very thick silicone. What you feel in your hand and what gets through to the tip is a drastic difference. The second issue is the pliability of the tip. I’m a person that needs a lot of pressure to orgasm. When I apply pressure with the tip of FOU, it just bends down. At some point I’ll finally get to where I can’t push anymore but then I’ve got almost an inch of silicone wedged up against my skin. About as comfortable as it sounds. It’s okay if you want to put your clit in between the cut out and pinch inward but that could have been accomplished with something less squishy.
SIZE
FOU is handheld in size. It’s 2.75″ in total length (at my measurement). The diameter right under the cutout is 1 5/8″. The circumference in that area is 5.5″. The diameter at the widest point is 2″. The circumference at that point is 6.5″. The cutout is .75″ down and .5″ across.
I expected FOU to look somewhat like MiMi. While they are similar in size, FOU is rounded like an egg. MiMi looks like a flattened egg or a stone. FOU is literally rounded. It’s like one of the super gigantic farmer’s eggs with a little cut out on it.
I’m still not sure how I feel about holding FOU. My hand didn’t cramp up at all but it wasn’t the most ergonomic solution either. It’s round and large at the base and I felt like my hand was spread out too far.
My big problem with the sizing comes in with the cut out. My assumption was that this would fit nicely over the clit. If I place this over my clit there is a ton of space on either side. The cut out is just too big to use for that purpose. I thought maybe I had a super small clit, but I’ve noticed this mentioned in other reviews. I think it was just made too large to fulfill that purpose.
DESIGN
I’ve pretty much touched on all the basics of the design – egg shaped, cut out. I just left this section here to include the picture you see to the side that shows the cut out a little better. You can also see the eggy shape a bit more. This is a good photo to notice all the lint on. Keep in mind that this photo was taken ten minutes or less after opening the package. That’s a lot of lint for ten minutes!
OPERATING THE FOU
There are three buttons on FOU – plus, minus, and asterisk (*). To turn on hold the plus button for three seconds. To turn the power up or down use the plus or minus button. To turn off hold the minus button down. This will need to go back down through all the power levels before turning off. You can switch to patterns at any time by pressing the asterisk. Pressing it again changes the pattern. Pressing the plus or minus button will bring it back to steady vibration.
The buttons have Fun Factory’s “Magic Touch” which means if you run your hand over them when it’s off it will light up. This works about half the time I try to get it to on all my Magic Touch toys so maybe my hands are too cold to activate it. Or it just isn’t that responsive.
CHARGING THE FOU
FOU is rechargeable. It works via Fun Factory’s Click ‘N Charge technology. If you have other Fun Factory toys those chargers will also work with FOU as all Click ‘N Charge chargers are cross compatible.
Click ‘N Charge is a magnetic charging technique. The FOU and the charger connect via magnetic draw. This also allows the toy to be waterproof as there are no holes for water to get into.
FUNCTIONS AND VIBRATIONS
I always have the hardest time figuring out how many power settings are on the Fun Factory toys. There’s not a clear distinction between the levels sometimes and they’re hard to count out. I’m pretty sure there are four. There could be five but if so two are exactly the same.
At the first setting, FOU feels like a 2/5 intensity in the middle. When you feel the tip it hardly feels on, giving it a 1/5 intensity. At the highest intensity the middle feels like it could almost pass for a 4 intensity motor. At the tip the vibrations don’t translate well. They just barely make it over the hump to rate a 3/5.
The vibrations are midway between buzzy and rumbly. They don’t penetrate the skin really well but they aren’t totally surface level.
The big problem with the vibrations is that they are located in the center of the FOU and then have to try to get through all that thick silicone. They aren’t super strong to begin with and get dampened so much along the way that they won’t be usable to many people.
The first pattern is a moderately fast pulse. The next is a wave that goes from low to high speed. The next is a slower wave. The next is a super slow-mo wave.
The noise level is louder than other small external toys. It’s not as loud as a wand or a small appliance but it is loud enough to be somewhat distracting. While doing this review my husband has the TV turned on a very loud volume and I can still hear FOU over the TV.
PACKAGING
FOU comes in brand new packaging from Fun Factory. It’s a pretty vibrant blue color with a picture of FOU on the front and side. It says “Free Vibes FOU” on one side. In between sides it says “LOVE” and has little images to show that it’s waterproof, charges magnetically, has magic touch, and is made of silicone. The charger is packaged separately, as is the case with all Fun Factory Click ‘N Charge toys.
Included in the packaging is a really pretty gold pouch. I normally hate gold but this one is pretty. Inside the gold pouch is another pouch made of what I think is called tulle or something like that. The pouches can be removed from each other so you get two for one.
It comes with a sample pack of lube. It does contain glycerin and I have gotten yeast infections from the Toyfluid before so just check for sensitivities before using it.
Mine has a instruction manual that explains the warnings and such but not one that explains how to actually work the toy. I find this very strange. Maybe mine was just missing it?
FOU IN USE
As soon as I turned this on and held it in my hand I knew it wouldn’t work for me. What I didn’t realize was how badly the vibrations I felt in my hand would translate into the tip of the toy. The power is moderate at best when you use the tip of this. I don’t like broad stimulation so just sticking the side on my clit wasn’t going to do anything for me.
Then there’s the cut out. It seemed like such a cool idea but just didn’t work. When I tried to place my clit in between the sides there was room on either side and I couldn’t feel the vibrations at all. If I just used the longer tip to try to pinpoint it would squish down and not feel good. If I tried to pinch my clit in between the cut out it was too pinchy for my liking. There’s just nothing I could do with this that was pleasurable in any way. This was one of those frustrating toys that made me want to haul it against the wall. It seemed there was no possible way to hold it to make it feel “good” let alone “orgasmic.”
I hear FOU is good for nipple stimulation and that may be. I didn’t test it that way. When I buy a vibrator I buy it to use on my lower half, not up upper half. I did test it on my neck when I saw that the little diagram had a pinpoint on the neck. I found it to be too weak and too loud to serve that purpose as well.
RECOMMENDATION
This is probably a pass for most people. If you need moderate vibrations and don’t mind a lot of noise maybe you’ll be able to figure out a way to use the shape that I couldn’t. Personally, I think you’re better off getting a traditionally shaped clit vibe that has more substantial vibrations, less noise, and a shape that works. The bunny eared Form 2 had the right idea with this type of shape. Too bad it was so glitchy. This version isn’t nearly as nice of a take on the shape and about half the vibration power. I just can’t see recommending this – not to beginners, advanced users, or anyone in between.
IN CONCLUSION
Generally when something is well made but doesn’t work for me I’ll give it 3 stars so long as I can see it working for others. This I can’t see working for enough people to warrant the 3. It’s not that the quality is low on this, it’s just that it won’t be a useful toy to many people. It may appeal to some who need less power so it’s not a “no one can use this” toy which saves it from 1 star status. I’m reminded of my PicoBong (Lelo) Honi experience in rating this (another 2 star toy) – a useless toy from an otherwise great company.
Rating: 2/5

Well… you’ve made my decision for me!!! Not to Fou. The UFO.
Thanks this is an amazing review!
Glad to help! I saw two reviews for UFO today that seem to say it’s the same in power and noise as FOU.
The shape of that one looked interesting as well. Thank you!!
Well, this review will be the straw that breaks the camel’s back, for me. You’ve gone into such depth about why it doesn’t work in ANY fashion. So disappointing.
This has been one of the most disappointing Fun Factory toys EVER. The AstroVibes I have were also pretty awful. Those got discontinued. Wonder if this will go the same way.
Oh and the title of this review is made of win.
You are now the third person to get it. I thought this was the best title I’d ever come up with. I was sad more people didn’t get it. I’m so happy you did!
Your title made me giggle, and I was impressed by the thoroughness of your review! I’ll have to give both of these new FF vibes a pass…I need more power to get off. Thanks for taking one for the team and reviewing this!
