When first we practice to deceive!
- Walter Scott

I won’t be reviewing for EdenFantasys anymore and I feel you deserve to know why. I thought about just taking links down and leaving it at that. Given the fact that they’re easily one of the largest online sex toy shops, the absence of their presence here (especially given how much I’ve reviewed for them) likely wouldn’t go unnoticed. I feel you guys deserve to know the details on why I’m no longer supporting them.

The Story

I started reviewing for Eden in early September of 2011. Since then I’ve been an active member on their forums, a frequent reviewer, and a mentor to new reviewers. I’d like to lie and say I was always miserable there, but I won’t. For the first few months I had a lot of fun. I met friends on the forums, tweaked my reviewing skills, and enjoyed helping would be reviewers learn the ropes.

I can’t remember when it was that things started to go sour. The forums went from having some spam to being drowned in it. Why so much spam? You see, Eden offers points for activities on the site. These points then convert to gift cards which can be used to purchase toys. Great way to build a collection, but also a great way to breed system abuse.

As the forum spam went on, the system for voting on reviews also took a hit. There was retaliation voting and many, many people just voting whatever to earn their points.

The thing is, I could have looked past that. All communities have problems and obviously one that gives incentive for actions will have even more problems. Really, the start of my issues with Eden weren’t the abuse and point farming. It was how the administration handled it.

After a long period of arguing between members and admin, the final say on everything was that veteran members were simply “unwelcoming.” The louder someone spoke up, the harder admin came down on them for bringing the community down.

After over a year of time in the community, here’s what I can tell you it boils down to. Eden wants to maintain a perfect appearance. They are the stereotypical “ideal” family: flawless on the outside, a dysfunctional mess when you take a closer look. There is a thick air of forced happiness from those that run the site. If you begin to see through the veil and speak up, prepare for the worst. They will adore you while you’re new and still enamored with points and assignments. As the lure of these things fade and you start to notice the peeling walls, they will no longer care for you.

You know what though? Even all that I’d be able to forgive. At least, I might not review for them quite as often, but I’d still maintain a presence there. The lies don’t stop at the forged happiness though.

The more frustrated I grew with the community, the more I started to dig. I started this site to make my way into the world as an independent reviewer. I found fellow bloggers and with those bloggers came horror stories. A long time member was banned for what seems to boil down to not drinking enough of the Eden Kool-Aid. There’s also the intricate linking methods Eden uses to essentially screw over all the bloggers that work with them. There are reports of not paying employees as well as mistreating them.

All that stuff has been well documented in the links, so I won’t go into the details. I learned all of that and still I stayed, mostly because I didn’t have an established presence online that could carry me through.

Then, horror of horrors, reports started popping up about people receiving used toys from them. A few times it popped up on the Eden forums. Of course, the cheery admin were quick to say this was false, citing the fact that there are two difference facilities for shipping and returns. In one of these posts I suggested that they add this information to their FAQ since it seemed to keep coming up. The answer? No, they wouldn’t. Can you say giant red flag? Edit: Added link to the thread where they state they won’t add this info to the FAQ. Okay, edit two. Within a few hours of me linking to that thread it magically disappeared. Classy, guys. No worries though. Here’s the copied response that was given:

Her loss. Sad as it is, that’s a pretty ridiculous line of thought to begin with and if anyone is spreading said rumors one should consider the source from which said rumors sprang.

There are always going to be haters. It just means we are so awesome they want to knock us off the pedestal.

That being said, we will not be adding anything to the FAQ or anywhere else to dispel said rumors. While this may seem like a counter intuitive response, we have our reasons.

Still, I believed they surely must have two facilities. Surely no sex toy store wouldn’t separate these things. It took very little research on the site to prove their stance wrong. All it took was a quick glace at a package from them and a look at their Returns page. The two separate facilities? Yeah, they’re both located at the same address. Same street, same number, same suite.

So what was Eden’s response when presented with this information?

The used toy thing is bullshit. I once received an envelope of concert tickets for a show one time that had water in it, a weird smell, and most of the paper inside the envelope had deteriorated and started to mold… were my tickets used? Lets be honest here, no company is going to sell used toys.

The thread is worth looking at for their response on a number of issues, but most disturbing is the fact that they do not deny having only one address. They do not provide some second facility location that must have somehow been overlooked in research. No, instead factual reports are dismissed as “bullshit” without any evidence, other than anecdotal, to refute it. The thread is closed to comments, left to be quickly buried in the spam.

Within an hour of that post, another fun one cropped up. This one continues to ignore the address issue and brings up another great topic: negative reviews. Or rather, how we should be “reporters” when we review and not focus so much on negative things. I’ve already made a statement on how I feel about that.

This whole thing makes me feel very stupid. I believed a lot of lies that were fed to me for much longer than I should have. I’ll own up to that. Maybe I’m gullible, maybe I didn’t want to see anything past points. Whatever the reason, my eyes are open now.

It’s not because of forum drama or poor treatment of members that you won’t see reviews for Eden anymore, even though those things piss me off like you don’t even know. It’s the lies and the unethical business practices. It’s the fact that I don’t want to continue to send customers somewhere they might end up buying something used thinking it’s new.

Like A Jelly Dildo

Now I come to my dilemma. I’m gonna use an analogy those reading this should understand. Telling you not to shop at Eden is like telling you not to buy a jelly dildo. I can tell you it’s unsafe, likely to burn your insides, and may even give you cancer. Many (hopefully most) of you will take that information and decide to buy something safer. Some of you, on the other hand, are gonna decide that spending only $10 on a dildo is more important.

I’m big on personal responsibility. Once you have the information, you have to decide what to do with it. I’ve given you the information I have. Now it’s up to you what to do.

I will take it one step further though. If you came to me and said there’s nothing I can say to stop you from buying that $10 jelly dildo, I’m gonna at least recommend you use a condom with it. So now I’m gonna give you the equivalent of a condom for buying from Eden.

I’m taking down the links on my home page and my Buy Stuff page. For the time being I will keep my Sales and Deals page updated with their promos. Why? I have a strategy, that’s why.

If you must buy from them, here’s how. First and foremost, if you’re gonna buy more than one item, take advantage of the points. Hell, everyone else does. Secondly, do not pay full price. Eden runs anywhere from 4-6 different sales every week. There is no reason to pay retail on anything from there. Lastly, and most importantly, buy new releases. This limits the likelihood of you getting a used item. The new releases won’t likely be featured on regular sales, but every few weeks site wide coupons will come out which can then be used on new items.

Or Buy Silicone

There’s a better option than working the system over at Eden though. Give your money to companies that deserve it. From one stop shops to indie manufacturers, there are plenty of quality places to buy things from. Both SheVibe and Lovehoney have good selection, good prices, good sales, and on-site review programs. They, along with the other sites listed here, are the silicone to Eden’s jelly. No condom or intricate system required.

Updates

Well, that was quick. I updated this post with the link to the thread discussing the FAQ early in the morning on 12/9/13 (original post dated 12/8/2013). Within maybe an hour tops I was notified that they took the thread down. I was running some errands at the time, but when I got home I tried to go on Eden. The site wouldn’t load. Not a case of “I can’t login.” The whole site literally would not load. A quick check on Twitter confirmed that others could access the site. Apparently they blocked my IP from accessing any part of Eden. ‘Cause, you know, I might spy or something.

Like the rest of the world, I have a cell phone. An attempt to login from there gave me the error “Your account has been locked. Please call [some number].” Beck, who made a post shortly after mine, had the same problem. For a while we both thought they had shut us out without notification, but emails were found in spam.

So apparently “disabled” is the word we’re using. I have no idea what this means in terms of if this is permanent or temporary. I emailed for clarification and was told it “means that your account is no longer active.” Which didn’t really answer the question I had, but okay. I emailed again and have yet to receive a response.

Let me take a moment to draw your attention to the text in the email for a second. “Due to numerous violations of the Eden EOC.” Okay, just no. I have never gotten a warning for any activity on the site. The only flags ever thrown on me were in the ridiculous positive review thread. Two on a post where I said Dangerous Lilly’s blog post on negative reviews should be required reading for reviewers. One marked “spam” and one marked “I’m personally offended by this post.” So yeah, that’s just not valid. I then posted that the flags weren’t valid, that it was hilarious to even flag them (’cause it was), and also that throwing up flags for no reason was against the EOC. That post was then flagged. Twice.

I never got any email from admin discussing those flags or issuing me a warning or anything. We can rule out “numerous violations” to somehow mean “repeat offender.”

What activities can result in an instant “disabled” account, as per the EOC?

There are some actions that can result in immediate suspension or banning: defamation, bullying, threatening, spam content, fake/spam reviews, and plagiarism. These will be decided on a case by case basis. Depending on the activities in question, we reserve the right to temporarily disable your account pending your response to an e-mail from us to prevent further abuse from occurring. You will also be issued an official warning and that will remain in effect even after your account has been reinstated.

Here’s where I have a multitude of issues. The first thing that set me off was that “fake/spam reviews” and “plagiarism” are listed in there, but I have watched both of these go on without banning. There was one member who was a few fake reviews shy of 100, literally posting up to 5 a day. But, ya know, let’s just let that go on for a while. I literally lost count of the number of plagiarized reviews posted or I’d offer you a list. Clearly the “immediate suspension” rules have a lot of lax in that “case by case basis” clause.

Since I’ve never bullied, threatened, posted spam or fake reviews, or plagiarized, that leaves the one I’m guess they’re citing me on: defamation. Which is where my next big issue comes in.

defame:

to harm the reputation of by libel or slander

In order to prove libel:

There are several ways a person must go about proving that libel has taken place. For example, in the United States, first, the person must prove that the statement was false. Second, the person must prove that the statement caused harm. Third, the person must prove that the statement was made without adequate research into the truthfulness of the statement. (Via Wikipedia)

So, no, my post wouldn’t fall into the insta-ban “defamation” category because:

1) Everything I said was fact. Most everything documented with links, though some have since been removed. I did not say “Eden is selling used toys on purpose” nor even “I know Eden sells used toys.” I said there are not the two addresses they claim, which you can verify for yourself. I said it has been reported that people have received what appears to be used toys. You can put those two FACTS together and come to whatever conclusion you want with ‘em.

2) Clearly I put research into the statements, as there are multiple links that span a number of YEARS.

But let’s just say I was on here making up all sorts of random shit rather than posting well researched facts. Even then, that counts as ONE violation of EOC, not numerous ones. WORST CASE scenario is one violation and that one isn’t even valid.

I’d love to know what they’re claiming are my “numerous violations.” I seriously debated emailing and asking, but somehow I know I’d get some asinine response and you know what? It’s just not even worth the migraine I’d get from reading it.

I have emailed about the time span of my “disabled” account as well as verifying that my commissions would be paid to me in the most polite and civil manner I could muster for a company that booted me for honesty. I’ve been told I will get my commissions, though now I have no way to track them anymore. I’d like access to my Affiliate Dashboard back, even if the account remains blocked from everything else on the site. Somehow I don’t think that’s gonna happen, but whatever.

I have been told that previous members whose accounts were marked “disabled” were told they would be reinstated upon signing what amounts to a hush contract. I’m not doing that, so I guess we’ll see if the account ever gets open again. At this point, just pay me my commissions and we’re cool. I don’t want any part of the forums, or the reviews, or the site. I just want what I’ve earned and anything earned in the future.

So that was my day today. One for the books, right? Thanks for that, Eden.

I’m also ever so slightly sad about not getting an epic banning post like Epiphora did. Of course, because that post didn’t quite go the way they had hoped, I’m sure. Also because posting about banning me would just send people over here to see why. Instead they’re going the “sweep it under the rug” route, which just makes me even more certain they are hiding stuff.

Of all the new toys in Jopen’s new Key line, Comet was the one that really caught my attention. I originally thought it was a vibrator like the rest of the toys in the line, but it’s not. No matter. It wasn’t the vibrations that I was lusting after anyhow. It was the curved shape. Comet, along with the rest of the Key line, is available from SheVibe.

What It Is

Comet is called a “G-spot Wand.” I’m not really sure what determines “wand” status as it’s used for both vibrators (such as the Hitachi Magic Wand) and dildos (Pure Wand). Whatever term you wanna use, it’s a G-spot dildo. It doesn’t flare at the base, so it’s not ideal for anal use. That said, I know a lot of people use the Pure Wand anally and that doesn’t flare either. Just throwing the disclaimer out there to be cautious if you do use it this way.

All of the Key toys are available in the pretty blue that I have, raspberry pink, and lavender.

Packaging

Comet Packaging

Jopen really stepped up their game in the packaging department with Key. The boxes are color coordinated to the toy. The front has a slide off top with a picture of Comet with the words “Lay back and enjoy the ride.” This slide off to a flat black box. The black box has the Key and Jopen logos on it and some information about Comet. It opens like a book where Comet is placed inside foam. Underneath the foam is a pouch and manual. The pouch is meh, but it’ll work for storage.

Material

The body of Comet is made of silicone. The handle is made of glass. The emblem on the glass handle is made of stainless alloy. All of the materials used are body safe. Since the body is made of silicone you should stick to water based lubes.

The silicone used is lovely. There’s no drag to it and it has a very velvety feel. The silicone is wrapped around a firm middle (not sure if the middle is glass or plastic as it doesn’t specify). There is zero give to it. This means it holds the curve shape when you apply pressure with it. This is good for me, but if you need some give this probably won’t work for you.

There’s a seam that runs down the middle of the body. I can feel it easily with my hands, but didn’t notice it when inserted. There’s also a few raised wave designs on the body. Even though I’m texture sensitive I really couldn’t feel these. They seem to be more for visual than stimulation.

Size

Comet Measurements

Comet’s total length is 8″. Of that 5″ is insertable. The specs list the widest diameter at 1.5″. When I measure across the head in the position you see in the photo I get 1 5/8″. Not really a huge difference, but I thought it was worth pointing out. The circumference is 5 1/8″. Right before the handle the diameter is 1″ with a circumference of 3.5″.

The length goes from the tip of my finger to just below my palm. The girth of the head is right about the width of two fingers.

Comet in Hand

The size of the head is about average, but because it’s so firm it may not work if you prefer slimmer sizes. The head size works well for me, neither too large or too small. It covers just the right amount of area without feeling too broad.

Design

Comet Design

Okay, so Comet won’t win any awards for being the most unique design, but it’s a design that tends to work really well for me. Not gonna complain about something that works.

The best way to describe the shape of Comet is to say it’s like half a Pure Wand. Where the Pure Wand is double ended, Comet has only one insertable end. The head is rounded and then comes inward. It gradually slims down to the handle. The curve happens right in the center of the body.

It’s a lot of curve which is either really good or really bad depending on your anatomy. I can’t hit my G-spot without a curve like this one, so it’s good for me. I do know some people have issues with curves like this catching on their pubic bone. If you’ve run into that with similar shapes, I’d assume the same would happen here.

Comparing

Key Comet vs. Pure Wand

The nJoy Pure Wand is almost universally recommended as the toy to have for G-spotting. Comet has a similar shape, so it only seems fair to compare it. The first major difference is that the Pure Wand is double ended and Comet is not. I only really used the small end of the Pure Wand when I first got it, so not having that end isn’t really a loss for me. The downside of not having the smaller end is that it makes Comet less universal. If you prefer smaller widths or more pinpointing on your G-spot, Comet doesn’t offer that.

The curves are nearly identical. I placed them on top of each other and they line up almost exactly. The rounded heads are also pretty much the same. If the design of the Pure Wand works for you, odds are that Comet will too. Of course, the thing about being almost clones means if you have one you probably don’t need the other. That is, unless you have a thing for collecting G-spot toys like I do.

One of the biggest differences between the two is the weight. Since the Pure Wand is made of metal, it’s much heavier than Comet. Comet does have a bit of weight to it due to the glass portion, but it’s not anywhere near as heavy as the Pure Wand. This is another thing that could go either way depending on your preferences. I have a bad right wrist. The only thing I’ve ever complained about with the Pure Wand was the weight as it would tire my wrist out pretty quickly. Comet still winds end up a little heavy for me, but it’s an improvement over the weight of metal.

Comet In Use

The Pure Wand was the first toy that ever hit my G-spot. The toys I’ve found that work for me since then all have a similar shape. Since the Pure Wand is heavier than ideal for my wrists, I’m always on the lookout for something that will work just as well without the weight. The Ophoria Beyond 3 was one of my top picks since it’s made of silicone and shaped with the same curve. For some reason I can’t understand, the Beyond 3 was discontinued. Since then I haven’t really had a semi-affordable, amazing G-spot dildo to recommend. All the ones I really love are wood and thus pricey.

Key’s Comet is my new go to alternative to the Beyond 3. In fact, it works better for me than the Beyond 3 because of how firm it is. I should give my usual disclaimer here: my G-spot is very difficult to work with. I need a lot of curve, a head that isn’t too large or small, and a firm material. You’d think there would be a ton of toys like that, but there are surprisingly few that will do it for me.

Comet has it all going for it. Right size, right shape, right firmness. I can hit my G-spot with ease. Since the head is a little larger I do need to warm up some before I’m actually able to hit my G-spot. I can use Comet to warm up though, I just need something to get me in a fully aroused state. Once I’m warmed up a little, I can just hook this upward into my G-spot, apply some pressure, and make the same moves I do with the Pure Wand. Rather than long thrusts, I use a short thrust that has a rocking motion to it. Not sure if that makes as much sense in text as it does in, you know, doing, but I’m not sure how else to explain it.

Pretty much the only thing I would tweak on Comet is to make it just a little lighter. While it doesn’t tire me out as quickly as the Pure Wand, I do find I have to switch hands back and forth when the weight gets to me. Of course, this almost always happens right when I’m about to cum because the universe hates me like that. Even though in an ideal world it would be a bit lighter, it’s not enough of a problem to make me love this less or dock points from it.

Recommendation

If you have the same requirements I do for getting a G-spot toy to work for you, don’t hesitate to get the Comet. The only cautions I would put up on this is if you have issues with this shape, need some give to your toys, or only like slim sizes. If you don’t fall into any of these categories, seriously get this.

In Conclusion

Rating: 5/5
Intensity: N/A
Noise: N/A

Pros: Deep curve, Firm material, Velvety silicone, Good sized head, Pretty appearance, Not as heavy as metal
Cons: Curve may catch on some pubic bones, Size may not work for everyone, Not as light as wood options

“Nothing in this world is harder than speaking the truth, nothing easier than flattery.” – Fyodor Dostoyevsky

Today is a sad day for me. Today I watched a large community of reviewers essentially agree to be “more positive” in their reviews, I assume in part (if not in all) to ensure the flow of free products.

As reviewers, I understand there are certain pressures. If we write negative reviews, perhaps we will lose our sponsors. If we write negative reviews, what product is there to buy through our links? Even if our sponsors are okay with negative reviews, I have seen manufacturers come down from on high to criticize negative reviews of their products. It’s stressful. I get it.

Herein lies the thing: negative reviews are crucial. Why? Whether you’re writing on a company site or your blog, people are trusting you when you type up those words. Thousands, if not millions, of people will stumble onto your review and use it in part to make a buying decision. Perhaps sometimes the item is $10, sometimes $100. It doesn’t matter. Someone worked for that money. Not everyone gets these items free for testing. I think sometimes that fact gets lost.

I have fallen victim to the falsely positive review. I have been on sites and seen rave reviews of what turned out to be a crap product. You know what? I was pissed and I bet you would be too.

I see people who say they write honestly, yet somehow every review is glowing. So out of hundreds of products not a single one was a dud? Okay, sure.

I also see people who openly state they will only write positive reviews. The only reply I can muster to this “what’s the fucking point then?” Let’s take a moment to remember what “review” actually means:

To examine with an eye to criticism or correction;
To write or give a critical report on

How one could gleam from that “write positively about” I’ll never know. No, I’m not saying all reviews should be negative, but perhaps the term “critical report” should be in the forefront of our minds as we write.

Am I overreacting? I dunno, maybe a little. Today I saw someone state that if a product did as claimed, that meant a positive review even if they didn’t personally like it. So the box states “Runs on AAA batteries, 7 Functions, Waterproof.” Great. It does indeed take AAA batteries. Putting them in makes the toy turn on. Check! Click through and seven functions are found. Check! Didn’t die when placed in water. Check! Orgasm? No, but that wasn’t on the box I guess. Five stars!

Can someone explain to me how that review helped anyone make a good buying decision? To me, performing as stated by the manufacturer is a bare minimum, not some great accomplishment. You know the type of people who complain because they don’t get told “good job” for doing the most basic things required of them? Yeah, it’s like that. You do not get a freakin’ gold star simply for turning on without a malfunction.

Sex toys are such a personal thing. There is no one toy that will work for every person out there. To give high ratings because “it may work for someone” is no longer reviewing. It’s writing a long product page. Sex toy reviews must then come from personal experience. Did the damn thing make you cum or not? That’s really what it boils down to in a simple sense.

Yes, I provide a lot of technical details in my reviews because I believe that specs are important in buying decisions. All the best specs in the world don’t make a good product though. This is why I am pretty strict about not giving over three stars for a toy I got nothing out of. If something isn’t good, you will know.

As a reviewer, I stand by my negative reviews. If they have lost me potential sponsors or sales, then so be it. My integrity means more to me than free toys or money. My readers’ trust means more to me.

As a reader, I have complete respect for those of you who are not afraid to write truthfully. When I am making a buying decision, it is the truthful among you I will turn to. I know we each face a decision with every review to write honestly or make a sponsor or manufacturer happy. I know this decision can be difficult and I’m almost certain that the latter leads to more free items and affiliate commissions, at least in the short term. In the long run though, it is the reviewers who speak truth that people will go to.

I like writing positive reviews. I like when something blows me out of the water and I get to go on and on about how amazing it was. I don’t really get off on saying things are awful. In my mind, however, I am a failure as a reviewer if I don’t do so.

I know I don’t write a lot of non-review content here, mostly because I’m more of a technical writer than a creative one, but I thought this was important enough to warrant a post. So I leave with this:

“You ask me what forces me to speak? a strange thing; my conscience.” ― Victor Hugo, Les Misérables

My fascination with electro sex toys isn’t new, but it wasn’t until a few months ago that I got to start experimenting with it. My collection is still pretty small, especially compared to how many toys I own in other categories. I had my eye out for new electro toys to try. UberKinky happened to send the Fetish Fantasy Shock Therapy Butterfly Stim out in an email. Most of my best luck with electro stim has been with internal use, but I liked the idea of moving toward external stimulation as well.

What it Is

It seems that electro sex toys tend to get lumped in with BDSM toys. I suppose I can understand this since at higher levels shock toys can produce pain. So far every electro kit I’ve tried starts out on very low settings.

Fetish Fantasy Shock Therapy Butterfly Stim

I think there tends to be a bit of fear associated with any electric device. Most people think of being shocked as a bad thing. I’m assuming this is because if you’re shocked accidentally it is a bad thing. When done on purpose, shocking adds a stimulation that cannot be achieved through other means. Think of it in the same way as pain play. If you stub your toe it hurts. If you’re in the moment and your endorphins are running, someone beating you twice as hard as that stubbed toe feels fantastic. Same concept here.

Electro shock is also used to alleviate muscle pain. My husband told me while I was testing this that they used shock therapy at the chiropractor. This particular device isn’t nearly as powerful as what they use there, but it could potentially be used to manage mild pain.

Packaging

Packaging

The Fetish Fantasy Shock Therapy Butterfly Stim comes in a medium sized white cardboard box. The front says both the brand name and product name. It has a photo of a naked woman, breasts covered by a man’s hands, on her knees with the product on. In other words, not very discreet. The cardboard box is sturdy though, so I’ve been using it for storage anyhow.

The back has a few paragraphs on general information about the toy. Sadly, no instructions are included. The back gives a quick “press a button to select” sentence, but more detailed instructions would have helped.

A black mask is also included in the package, as Fetish Fantasy tends to do. It’s pretty cheap and flimsy, so I wouldn’t get too excited over that addition.

You do get two of the adhesive pads with the kit. This is nice because even though they’re reusable the stickiness will eventually run its course.

Warnings

There are no warnings included with this product, which I find a bit odd as every other shock toy I’ve come across goes out of their way to make them clear. The general rules tend to be not to use toys like this if you have a heart condition, wear a pacemaker, have epilepsy, or are pregnant. Some shock kits also warn not to use near metal such as jewelry, so it’s probably not a bad idea to remove any before using this.

Material

I normally like to go into what’s used to make an item, but there’s nothing provided on this. The controller feels like plastic, but the pad itself is a mystery to me. I’ve not done a ton of research on electro pads. I’m guessing this is made of pretty much the same stuff they all are.

Size

The butterfly shaped adhesive pads are larger than I expected them to be. The total length across is 8.25″. At the widest point they are 4″. The butterfly shape comes inward at the middle which is 2″. The pads don’t take up the whole space. They are 3″ down and 3 3/8″ across.

When I got the package and saw the front picture I noticed that the pads seemed to cover much more area than I was hoping. My intention with this was to use it while masturbating or having sex. The photos made it appear like the pads would essentially block access. This seems to have been done in the images simply to tone down the packaging. I can easily place it on my skin and it doesn’t block anything. The only note is that it does extend into my legs and stomach some when placed higher up than in the image.

Design

Adhesive Pad

The adhesive pads are what gives this kit its name. They are shaped like a butterfly – how cute! You could also look at it almost as two hearts on each side. The sides make the same shape as the top of a heart. The pads then come inward in the middle. The middle section does not have any adhesive on it. The pads come in a baby blue pearl color. It’s actually really pretty, but it kinda gives me flashbacks from when I was on the birth control patch for some reason.

Back of Controller

If you notice in the first picture, two snaps are placed near the center of the pad. This is where the controller connects. Just snap the controller into the pad and it’s ready to go. Very simple and a lot less hassle than most electro toys.

Powering

Battery Compartment

The back of the controller has a slide out for the batteries. It takes two AAA batteries which are included in the package. The battery compartment is easy to open and close, so no complaints there.

Controlling

Controller

The controller has three buttons and four lights. The center button is “On/Inc.” The left button is “Program” and the right one is “Off/Dec.” Sounds simple enough, but I managed to get a bit confused for some reason.

The On/Inc button is pressed once to turn it on. If you press it again it increases the power. Off/Dec decreases the power. To turn it off you need to go all the way back down through the power settings. That’s the first thing I got thrown off by. I was assuming you could hold it down for a few seconds and it would jump to off, but it doesn’t.

The program button changes the way the shocks feel. Now here’s where I got really confused. The box states that this has six patterns and ten power levels. There’s only four lights. My guess before reading through everything is that there were either four patterns or four power settings and the lights would tell you which you were on. It doesn’t work that way.

The best I can figure is that the lights do show the pattern you’re on. The first four patterns light up only one button. The fifth and sixth pattern seem to light up either buttons 1 and 2 or 3 and 4. It seems like it would have been less confusing to just have six buttons, but there you go. Since the buttons show the pattern, there’s no way to track what intensity you’re on at the time. If you want to figure that out you just have to count.

Programs and Intensity

The programs are really hard to describe, but I’ll try my best.

Quick throbbing pulse. These one feels the least zappy and goes deepest into the skin.

A slow pulse. More zappy than program one.

Five seconds of solid shock and then three seconds of nothing. About the same zap level as two.

Quick pulse followed by moderate pulse. Also zappy.

Solid shock followed by pulse. Slightly less zappy than previous patterns.

Constant shock. Feels less zappy at first, but since it’s constant shock it starts to feel more zappy over time.

I suck at counting out levels, so I’m just gonna take their word that there’s ten. The lightest setting is so low it doesn’t even feel like it’s on. I wrapped this around my arm to see how high I could go with it. I’m guessing it was just past the halfway point. I had it wrapped about midway between my palm and elbow and it was causing three of my fingers to move in time to the pulse. I’ve never gotten to try a professional shock system, so I can’t give an accurate statement on how they compare. My bet is that the professional units have a lot more kick to them. This set does deliver more shock than I thought it would be able to given its small size. Lovers of very intense shocks may want to look into higher voltage kits. For most people this should provide the range of sensation you’re looking for.

Butterfly Stim In Use

I’ve only had one experience prior to this with external shock toys. It was a pair of nipple clamps that came in a shock kit and I wasn’t overly thrilled with them. My nipples can be very sensitive and even at the lowest setting I found the shocks to be uncomfortable. However, I’ve had a lot of good luck with internal shock sensations and figured that my aversion to the clamps was simply because of where it was putting the shocks.

I used this exclusively on the mons pubis since I was attempting to heighten sexual experiences. I fully intended to try this on my back, but the one time I pulled my back out since I received the product I totally forgot about it. I did also wrap it around my arm to test the patterns, but that was for a short period of time.

I spent quite a bit of time confused by the controls and the lights. I’ve got it sorted out now, but my first few attempts with this were a little frustrating because I couldn’t piece together what the lights were telling me. Then again, I can be very dingy and that may be why I ended up so lost.

I ended up using the second pattern post often, the pulsing one. I felt like the pulse made me more aware of the shock than a steady stream of it. The other patterns seemed too random. I’m not big on pulse and hold type things with vibrators and it turns out I don’t like them anymore with shock. I guess I just like to know what’s coming next rather than be into something and suddenly surprised.

I set the power usually around the middle or right below. Right below seems to be my comfort zone at first, but as I get more aroused it seems to feel weakened. It’s a bit of a pain to turn it up when I have a dildo in one hand and a vibrator in another, so eventually I just started setting it to a bit higher than what I was comfortable with up front. Then once things progressed it ended up where I wanted it to be.

I wasn’t sure how much an external shock would really do for sexual sensation. It did add an extra element for sure. If I used an internal and external vibrator the shocks got drowned out some by everything else going on. When I used a dildo internally and only an external vibrator, the shocks were much more apparent.

I’m not entirely sure how to describe what exactly this adds sexually, but it does heighten the experience. It makes more parts of my body feel involved with what’s going on. At the higher levels it adds a small pain element as well. I’m always looking for some way to get a pain sensation while masturbating. I can’t exactly flog myself and work all my toys, so some alternative to that is good. While this is not even close to that level of pain, it does give me enough zap to help bring me to orgasm faster than I would otherwise.

The only other thing I’d mention is that the grip of the adhesive isn’t super strong. I used this in a horizontal position, so the stick wasn’t a real issue. When I would stand up with it on I could only get a few steps before it would start to peel itself off my skin. This could be a problem if you’re looking to use it in a variety of positions.

Recommendation

For someone interested in shock toys, the Fetish Fantasy Shock Therapy Butterfly Stim is an excellent starter set. The lowest setting is incredibly low intensity. Even someone nervous about getting a shock should be able to handle this setting. It increases from there, getting to a solid zap at the higher settings. It won’t rival professional units (to the best of my knowledge), but it gets the point across. Given that the price of this is far lower than pretty much any other shock toy, this would be a great item to test the waters with.

In Conclusion

I really like this set. It offers a good range of intensities and patterns and hooks up easily. The only reason I’m deducting a star is because I found the lights to be a bit confusing at first and because the adhesive doesn’t work if you stand up.

Rating: 4/5
Intensity: N/A
Noise: N/A

Pros: Easy to assemble, Portable, Wide range of power, Multiple patterns, Low price point
Cons: Control is a bit confusing, Adhesive won’t hold if you stand up

Key, the new affordable line from Jopen, caught my interest as soon as I heard about it. The Comet was my top pick from the line, but the internal Ceres vibrators were a close second. I got the Ceres G first. SheVibe sent the Ceres Original to me for review and that’s the one we’ll be looking at here.

What It Is

Key Ceres has three variations – Ceres G, Ceres Original, and Ceres Lace. Each are available in purple, pink, or blue. I’m a big pink kind of girl, but the robin’s egg blue beat out the raspberry pink in this line. It’s such a gorgeous blue!

The Ceres Original is a fairly traditional shaped vibrator. It has pretty much no texture on it and the design is a familiar one. It’s not perfectly straight like a technical “traditional” vibrator, offering it a better feel than those. The design reminds me a lot of Evolved’s Seduction and Bswish’s Bgood Deluxe.

Ceres is an internal vibrator, but of course you can use it externally as well. It should not be inserted anally due to the lack of flared base. The head is too broad for me to get anything out of on my clit, so I just use this as an internal toy.

Fun Facts: Ceres is the goddess of agriculture, fertility, and motherhood. It’s also a dwarf planet.

Packaging

Packaging

I think I mentioned in my last Key review (for the Nyx) that I’m not a fan of Jopen’s luxury line packaging. I think I’ve managed to complain about their packaging in every review I’ve written of their toys because it’s so blah. I guess maybe they heard myself and others say this, because Key boasts some much nicer packaging.

The packaging matches the color you pick. I have the blue Ceres Original and thus blue packaging. I like when packaging color coordinates like that. It makes my anal retentive self happy. The front and back have a photo of the toy on it, so not discreet. It also has wording that makes it very clear what this is used for in case you were somehow eluded by the photos.

The top half of the outer box slides upward, leaving just the black inner box. This has a book like flip opening. Ceres sits inside with the manual and pouch below it. If I wouldn’t have seen others mention the pouch, I probably would have missed it. The pouch is pretty cheaply made anyhow, so even if you miss it you’re not missing much.

Material

The body of Ceres is silicone. The base that controls the toy is ABS plastic. Key also added a special touch by making the buttons out of stainless alloy. Pretty sure this is just to make it sound fancy, but I guess it’s nice.

The plastic portion is almost transparent, giving it a glass like effect. It’s extra shiny and you can see the blue internal plastic below the darker blue casing. This part I’m actually pretty impressed by, but then I’m big on aesthetics.

The portion that goes inside you is silicone. Silicone is super safe and can be washed with a bleach solution to sanitize. Silicone lubes could potentially damage it, so if you must use one be sure to spot test.

The silicone is drag free and high quality. It collects dust if you leave it out, but isn’t a bad lint magnet. It’s velvety and supple, just the way silicone should be. It’s wrapped around a plastic interior which makes it firm. There’s a seam that runs along it. It’s visible and I can feel it with my hand. I didn’t notice it in use as it’s not really raised too much.

Size

Measurements

Ceres is 7.5″ in total length. Of that 5.25″ is insertable. The max diameter happens near the top. This is 1.25″ diameter with a circumference of 4.5″. Closer to the base the minimum diameter is 1″. The circumference is 3 3/8″.

When held to the tip of my finger Ceres extends just below my palm. The girth is right about the size of two fingers.

In Hand

Ceres falls right in or maybe right below what I tend to call “average” size. Not overly thick or thin, it should work for a range of people. While 1.25″ diameter is a possible starter size in some toys, this vibrator doesn’t have any give. If you’re new to penetration or prefer small toys there is a slight possibility this may still be too large simply because of the firmness.

Design

Design

Ceres Original is named as this shape is in the “traditional” or “original” style. The end is rounded off so that it’s not poky (something some traditional vibrators do for some reason). Right below the tip the size increases. It stays this size until about the mid point where it narrows down.

I’ve always loved this particular design for vibrators. It’s not that much different from a totally straight shape, but it feels much better. The straight shapes do nothing for me, but adding that one swell does me in. I’m not really a thruster, but I’ll thrust with these shapes just because I think they lend themselves well to it. It makes the size difference more enunciated.

From the tip to below the middle is an indented portion. It adds a nice visual, but does nothing in terms of adding texture. That’s a good thing for me as I don’t like texture. If you do, the Ceres Lace has crazy amounts of texture and is probably a better pick.

Powering

Battery

Ceres runs on 2 AA batteries which are not included. The bottom portion unscrews. Inside the vibrator is a clear tube in which the batteries are inserted and then placed back. This tube acts as a silencer, or at least makes it a little less noisy.

So here’s the thing with the battery compartment. A lot of people have been complaining that once the tube goes in, it doesn’t come back out. I’m not sure if the weird brand of batteries we most recently bought run small or if mine just has a larger tube than others, but I haven’t had this problem. The tube slides right back out for me. Given the sheer number of people I’ve heard complain this is not the case for them, I’m guessing it has something to do with my off brand batteries. Jopen has said they are fixing this issue and that the next set of these won’t have any battery problems.

There’s an O ring around the battery compartment which allows this to be used in water. I’ve had no problems in washing this and dunking it.

Controlling

Button

The button is made of the fancy stainless alloy and has the Key logo on it. It’s easy enough to use. Press once to turn on. Press again to change the pattern. Press it for about two seconds to turn it off.

Another thing I’ve seen people complain about is the button placement. The buttons are really easy to hit. I had one of my Key toys turn on when my husband grabbed it while it was still in the box. They’re sensitive buttons. If you hold this where your hand is anywhere near the button, you’re likely to have it change on you. I sorta grasp mine around the base rather than over it, so I haven’t had any sudden pattern changes.

Power and Patterns

Key is nice enough to give a little diagram for the functions, so of course I’m gonna use that. See below:

Patterns

There are seven available patterns. Only one of these is a constant vibration. I think this is really silly because you’re not gonna reach a broad range of people with one power level. You’re gonna miss those that are more sensitive and those that need more oomph. I’m never thrilled when there aren’t at least two constant vibration settings. Anyhow, here’s the breakdown on the functions:

High – Constant vibration. 4/5 intensity, 3/5 noise (depending on how you hold it)

High 2 – Super fast pulse

Wave – From low power to the “high” setting. Feels like it jumps rather than “waves.”

Pulse – Moderate pulse

Throb – Two moderate pulses, three fast pulses

Flutter – Super fast pulse like beats followed by a quick pause

Tease – High power, low power, repeat

The vibration power is good, but not great. It comes in right at 4 in intensity. It blows the external Key toys out of the water power-wise, but doesn’t touch the luxury Jopen toys. At around $100 cheaper than the luxury line’s cheapest models, I guess that’s no big shock.

The vibrations travel well through the toy, but stop right around the base so you won’t feel them in your hand. They aren’t as rumbly as the luxury ones, but are much more rumbly than most “affordable” vibrators. The vibrations penetrate skin well and don’t cause itching or numbing internally. I did have some numbing to my hand after holding it for a while.

If this was an external toy, it wouldn’t have quite enough power for me. Lucky for me, I need a lot less power internally than externally. Four intensity is right at what I need for an internal toy, given that the vibrations penetrate the skin. These do and thus the vibrations work for me.

There’s a big “but” on this and that’s the noise. Ceres is really loud for what it is. The noise is also unpredictable. If I move my hand placement, the noise level changes. When I thrust with it, the noise level is all over the place. This is really distracting to ADD me who ended up trying to figure out what made the noise get louder rather than actually enjoying the toy. I had to force myself to stop paying attention to it before I could finally orgasm.

At it’s lowest noise level it’s still a 3/5. At the highest it borders a 4/5. From what I can tell it seems to get louder if there’s a looser grasp on it or if I’m on the out part of a thrust. I’ll keep the rating at a 3, but it really comes close to getting a 4.

Comparing

Ceres Original and Ceres G

The Ceres Original is much slimmer than the Ceres G. The G has a large bulb at the head. The Key info packet lists them at the same diameter, but I’m skeptical of this. I haven’t measured the G yet, so perhaps they’re right. You can see in the photo though why I’m skeptical of this claim. The G looks much bigger than the Original.

All of the Ceres vibrators have the same seven functions. The G and Original have the same amount of power, so my best guess is that the Lace would follow suit. The big difference between the two is the shape. The G has a curve to it and Original does not.

If you follow my reviews, you’ll know I need a lot of curve to hit my G-spot. The Ceres G doesn’t have much of one and doesn’t get near my G-spot. It’s a really light curve, which I know some people can get away with. I’m not one of those people.

That said, I really go like both the Ceres Original and G. I think I have a slight lean to the Original because I don’t spend my time using it trying and failing to hit my G-spot. I can just enjoy it as is.

As for which to pick, go with what shape normally works for you. If you need curve to hit your G-spot, the G doesn’t really offer much of one. If you only need a little hook, than go with the G. You really don’t need both of them unless you collect toys like I do and just need to have them all.

Ceres Original In Use

The reviews for the Key line have been mixed. Part of this is because the external toys released are buzzy and weak. Part of this is also probably because people expected $60 toys to exactly reproduce the vibrations of $150+ toys. I’ll admit, I was really hoping they would. I tried the external toys first and hated them. I was a little nervous while Ceres Original was on its way to me that its vibrations would be equally weak and buzzy.

Ceres won’t blow your mind with power, but I was satisfied with what it has. Again, this is because I need less vibrations internally. They have a nice rumble to them which doesn’t hurt my opinion either.

Combine the vibrations with one of my all time favorite designs and I’m bound to love something. Of course, this holds true for Ceres Original. The vibrations would really have to be terrible to make me hate a vibrator shaped like this.

The only big issue I have is that it only has one power option. Sure, I only ever use “high” anyhow, but I know other people do really use other speeds. It just seems goofy to only give one power option. It’s really more of complaint on behalf of others than one for me personally. I stand by it being a valid complaint.

Recommendation

For the most part, yes. I’d probably wait a little while until the first batch sells out and they start making the newer ones without reported battery issues. Even though I haven’t had any, I know enough people who have that I’d say to wait it out. If you need a ton of power or are on the opposite end and need low settings, Ceres sadly doesn’t have options for that. If high end of moderate/low end of strong vibrations will satisfy you, then go for it. The shape has been around as long as it has for good reason.

On a side note, if you like the looks of this but don’t wanna spend $60, the Evolved Seduction and Bswish Bgood Deluxe have the same shape. They are about a full notch down in intensity though, so take that into account when making your buying decisiosn.

In Conclusion

As much as I love Ceres Original, I have to dock points for only having one power setting and being loud. I’m also taking into account how many people have complained about batteries getting stuck and the button being too easy to press (though these are weighted less in my rating since I didn’t personally have problems).

Rating: 4/5
Intensity: 4/5
Noise: 3/5

Pros: Classic design that works well, Beautiful color options, Quality silicone, Rumbly vibrations, Decent power
Cons: Noise fluctuates and is loud, Only one power setting, Possible battery and button issues

While I like the idea of rabbits, not a lot end up working for me. I’m spaced closely together and most of the arms don’t reach my clit properly. There was a period where I bought as many rabbits as I could trying to find one that would work for me. I’ve found a few since then, so now I know what to look for in a rabbit. The short length of the Ladygasm Cici seemed like a good fit for me. I had my hopes up when Ladygasm sent me the Cici for testing.

What It Is

Cici is a non-rotating rabbit, meaning the shaft vibrates rather than doing the traditional rabbit rotation. It’s primary purpose is to have the shaft inserted vaginally with the small arm touching the clit. You could also flip it and have the small arm stimulate the anus. Because it has a little arm, it could also be used anally. This would serve as a sort of base to keep it from getting stuck.

Packaging

Packaging

Cici comes in nice, simple packaging. The outside is a burgundy box with simply “Ladygasm” on it. Of course, Ladygasm does hint at it being a sex toy, so it’s not completely discreet in that regard. It doesn’t have photos of the toy though, so it’s more discreet than many.

When the box is opened, Cici rests on the inside around fuzzy black material. This looks fancy, but sadly the black lining lints all over the toy. I take all my photos as soon as I open the package and you’ll be able to see the black fuzz all over it. I don’t use this box for storage. Even though it looks like a good storage solution, I didn’t like how it made my toy turn black with lint.

Material

There are two materials on Cici – ABS plastic and silicone. The plastic portion is the base area in black. The silicone is the main portion in purple.

The plastic is matte with a powdery feel to it. It’s actually really velvety for plastic. It feels nice in the hand and has no drag. The silicone is super soft. It has no drag at all. It is wrapped around a plastic core and doesn’t have any give. It is flexible right above the handle where I suppose there’s less plastic.

I gotta say, I’m really impressed with the silicone given the price point on this rabbit. It rivals some of the higher end silicone that luxury companies use. I needed very little lube to insert this.

Size

Measurements

Cici is a petite rabbit. It’s 7″ in total length, but only 3″ of that is insertable. The diameter near the head is 1″ with a circumference of 3.5″. Where the body comes in the diameter is 7/8″. The circumference is 2.75″. The clit arm is slim as well, at only .5″ diameter.

The total length of the toy is exactly the same as from the tip of my finger to the end of my palm. The width is a bit more than one finger.

In Hand

Here’s the thing about rabbits: one size does not fit all. That’s what makes buying one so tricky. It depends heavily on how far apart you are from clit to vaginal opening. There’s a huge variation on this spacing from woman to woman, making finding a rabbit that much harder.

I’m spaced pretty close together and Cici’s little arm hits just right on my clit. If you’re spaced on the average side, this could possibly work. If you’re further spaced, this won’t work for you. My friend Beck also got Cici for review. She’s spaced on the opposite end as me and reported that the arm didn’t hit her clit. You can check out her review here.

Design

Design

The start of Cici comes upward into a rounded point. This is intended for G-spot stimulation, but of course got no where near my finicky G-spot. If your G-spot is located about 2-3″ in and doesn’t need a lot of curve, you may have more luck than I did.

After the head, it comes inward into a slimmer shaft. The size difference isn’t huge, but you can feel it when inserted.

The clit arm has seven small raised ticklers. They’re short and I couldn’t really feel much difference in this versus a non-tickler rabbit. I do tend to apply a lot of pressure with clit arms, so that may be why.

Controlling

Buttons

There are two buttons that control Cici. The website says that Cici has seven vibration modes and four levels (I assume meaning power levels). The bottom button turns Cici on and the top button turns it off. The site states that the clit arm and main shaft are controlled separately, but for the life of me I can’t figure out how to do this. There’s no manual included, so I was left just sort of pressing buttons with no result. I also can’t seem to get to the different functions. When I press the bottom button, it just turns Cici off. It doesn’t change functions or power. Somehow I suppose there are patterns to this, but I’m at a total loss.

Powering

Battery

The bottom unscrews, revealing the compartment for batteries. There’s an O ring on the battery compartment which should allow this to be at minimum splash proof. I didn’t see mention of this being waterproof and thus didn’t test it that way.

Cici takes two AAA batteries, not included. The specs say that it should run for three hours on one set of batteries.

Power and Functions

As I said, I can’t seem to access any of the additional power settings or functions. Mine just seems to have one steady vibration and that’s it. I’m gonna have to just give the info on that power level since it’s all I have.

At the one setting I have, the vibrations are a low 2/5 in intensity. They’re incredibly buzzy and cause my hand to go numb quickly. They don’t penetrate the skin at all. They’re very surface level. When inserted I can hardly feel the vibrations in the shaft. The vibrations on the clit arm aren’t any better, again about a low 2/5. I’m a power queen for external use and the vibrations of this tickled me more than anything. I got frustrated very quickly with the power on Cici. It’s nowhere near what I need, or what I feel the average person would need.

The good thing is that the noise is pretty low. It is higher than it should be given the power, but it’s only about 2/5 in noise.

Cici In Use

While Cici fits me like very few rabbits do, it lacks the vibration strength I need. After only a few moments of using it, I’m left more annoyed than satisfied. The buzzy vibrations also cause a tickling sensation that numbs me and makes me itch. When you add that to the fact that the control seem unreliable, if not downright unusable, Cici is a big failure for me.

I knew as soon as I turned Cici on that it wouldn’t work for me. It’s really a shame because I don’t run across many rabbits that fit my body well. It seems I’m forever stuck in the rut of a rabbit either being strong enough and not fitting or fitting and not being strong enough.

Recommendation

In short, no. The vibrations won’t be enough for the majority of people. The buttons don’t work well or are so confusing I can’t figure them out. Not sure which one it is.

However, there is one and only one situation that I would recommend Cici. Rabbits, generally speaking, are not cheap. Cici costs only $25. If you’re not sure what measurements on a rabbit will work for you and think you may be spaced closely, Cici is a good way to test out how a rabbit will fit. When I first started my rabbit journey, I bough multiple $90+ rabbits only to realize none of them fit me. Huge waste of money, right? Cici is a good way to test out what size you’ll need. Once you figure out the proper size rabbit for you, you can safely invest in more expensive rabbits.

In Conclusion

The only reason Cici manages two stars is because it’s low price point is good for testing rabbit sizes. Otherwise, there’s just not much going for it.

Rating: 2/5
Intensity: 2/5
Noise: 2/5

Pros: Quality silicone, Low price
Cons: Very weak, Wonky controls, Probably too small for most anatomies

Another set of new releases from Tantus – the Juice, Neo, and Twist. All are anal plugs that come in purple and black. I loved the shape of the Juice and Neo, but was nervous about trying the Twist. I’m not the best with textures. My husband was on board with helping me testing that one, so you’ll get two opinions on it. All three are available from SheVibe.

What It Is

Tantus makes a lot of much loved butt plugs. The Ryder is often referred to as the must have plug. They have plugs that range from beginner to seriously advanced. These three fall somewhere in the middle.

Plugs can be used in a variety of ways. You can use them during sex or masturbation to heighten the experience. You can also just wear them during daily activities. Tantus plugs are great for long term wear as the bases are normally very comfortable.

These three offer a variety of textures from smooth to heavily textured. There should be one for every preference.

Packaging

Packaging

All three come in standard Tantus packaging. The box is made of clear plastic, so the plugs are visible. Not the most discreet, especially when you add the wording that’s on it. There’s some red accents around the box. The back talks about Tantus and their premium silicone.

Material

Tantus’ specialty is silicone toys. All three of these plugs are made from premium Tantus silicone. This allows them to be sanitized between partners or between uses. You can boil them or place them in the dishwasher. A general rule of thumb is to avoid using silicone lubes with silicone, but you can always spot test if you want to use a silicone lube.

The silicone of these plugs is the same between the three. I really like this particular silicone. It’s very soft and plushy. It has more give to it than some other Tantus toys I have. This softer material makes them easier to insert and more comfortable to wear.

Some Tantus toys seem to have more drag on them, but these plugs are drag free. You can glide your finger down them with no resistance. Again, this is great for easy insertion.

Size

Measurements

The size of all three is the same, so I’m just going to give one diagram and go over the sizes. Each of the plugs is 4.5″ in total length. The insertable length is about 4″. The diameter at the widest point of the plugs is 1.5″. The circumference is 4.5″. The base of each is 2.5″.

Each one goes from the tip of my finger to right above the middle of my palm. The width is the same as two fingers.

The size is a bit larger than what I would recommend for someone getting a first plug. It falls just in the middle size range, neither very small nor very large. I tried these after taking a break from plugs for a while and probably would have been better off using a warm up plug the first time. After a few uses I had no problem inserting these without warm up.

Base

Bases

The base on all three is the same, so I’m lumping them all in one section. The base is curved upward on each side. They look a little poky in the photo, but they’re super comfortable. They’re very flexible due to the soft silicone material. When wearing these the base didn’t pinch my skin or get in the way. I usually use plugs during masturbation or sex and these didn’t block access to my vagina. The comfortable base makes these ideal for long term wear.

Design – Neo

Neo

Neo is the most basic of the three plugs. It has no texture, just a smooth surface. It begins with a small point, making insertion a breeze. It gradually gets larger as you go down, with the largest part happening right below the center. It then comes back inward and then out again into the base.

Design – Juice

Juice

Juice is the middle of the road design between Neo and Twist. It’s named because it looks like a juicer. It’s shaped exactly the same as Neo, but with indents around it. The indents go in pretty deep. It also begins with a slim tip and then widens.

I’ve mentioned a thousand times that I’m no good with textures, but the Juice looked non-intimidating even to texture sensitive me. I found that the texture wasn’t too intense. You can feel it when you insert it, but once it’s in you don’t notice it. The sensation on insertion wasn’t painful for me, which is saying something. However, if you’re big on textures this probably won’t be satisfying.

Design – Twist

Twist

Twist is the most texture heavy of the three. It looks like a corkscrew. It’s inserted like you’d think something with this design would be. You have to sort of screw it in. You can insert it without the screwing motion. When you do this the texture is much more evident. It’s also more difficult to do this way.

The texture on Twist was way too much for me to handle. I found inserting and wearing this to be uncomfortable. Unlike Juice, the texture is still apparent after insertion. You can feel each of the twists even if you don’t move around.

Comparing

Twist, Neo, Juice

The three are similar in size and material, but there are definite differences. The big difference is the texture on each. They go from nothing to very intense. What’s great about this is that you can pick according to what you like. Neo is probably best for someone just starting out with plugs looking to get a moderate size. Juice is a good option if you’re unsure about using textures anally or prefer light textures. Twist will be best for those that like lots of texture or unique designs.

Plugs in Use

My favorite is Neo, followed shortly by Juice. They’re pretty similar since the texture on Juice is light. If you’re deciding between them, just know you really don’t need both of them.

I think the best use for these is long term wear or wearing for short periods doing daily activities. The base is very comfortable and the soft silicone doesn’t start to irritate me over time. I enjoyed using them during masturbation, but found them to be a bit too large for use during sex. I’m also not good with anything other than a small plug during sex. If you prefer medium sized plugs for that, it may work better for you in that regard.

The Twist is something I won’t be using. It was painful for me to insert and not at all comfy to wear. Taking it out wasn’t any easier than getting it in. I sorta figured I wouldn’t like this one due to the texture, so I enlisted my husband to test it as well. He’s better with textures than I am. Even though he has some textured plugs that he likes, he agreed with my assessment of Twist. He had less trouble inserting and removing it than I did, but said it was so uncomfortable to wear that he had to remove it after about 15 minutes. Perhaps Twist would work for someone who loves a lot of texture, but for both of us this one just didn’t work.

Recommendation

I’d say for sure on the Juice and Neo. They’re comfy, easy to insert, and a moderate size that should work for many people. Twist I’m more cautious about recommending. I’d say only if you’re sure that heavy texture is your thing.

In Conclusion

NEO

Rating: 5/5
Intensity: N/A
Noise: N/A

Pros: Easy to insert, Comfortable to wear, Soft silicone, Smooth surface will work for most people
Cons: May be too large for a first plug

JUICE

Rating: 5/5
Intensity: N/A
Noise: N/A

Pros: Comfortable to wear, Easy to insert, Light texture will be good for most
Cons: May be too large for first plug, Texture not noticeable once inserted

TWIST

Rating: 3/5
Intensity: N/A
Noise: N/A

Pros: Will be great for texture lovers, Comfortable base
Cons: Texture likely too much for many, Difficult to insert and remove

Jopen, one of my all time favorite companies, launched their new affordable line recently. The new line is called Jopen Key and includes a number of vibrators and one dildo. Since I love Jopen so much, I was on pins and needles waiting for Key to finally arrive. I was especially excited about the external toys as Jopen doesn’t have those in their luxury line. I requested Nyx as an assignment from this sex toy store.

WHAT IT IS

Nyx is one of the smaller options in the Key line. It’s ideal use is externally, but since it’s a bit bigger than many external toys it could also be used internally if you prefer short and slim toys. It should not be inserted anally due to the lack of flared base.

PACKAGING

Nyx Packaging

While I love the luxury Jopen toys, I’ve always hated the packaging on them. Key comes through with nice packaging. While it doesn’t rival LELO or Je Joue, it’s perfect for a toy in this price range. The color of the packaging varies depending on what color you choose. I have Nyx in the Raspberry color, thus why the box is pink.

The front has a photo of Nyx and the words “It’s your lucky night…” followed by the Key logo and “Presented by Jopen.” This top pink portion slides up so it’s just a black box. The black box has the Key logo and “Presented by Jopen” as well. Below that it says Nyx Mini Massager” and “Sleek, elegant, and discreet. What more could you ask for?” The back has info on the toy and company.

The black box opens up to the side with Nyx sitting in it. There’s an included manual and pouch (which is very sub par).

MATERIAL

There’s a whopping four materials used to make Nyx. The main portion is made of silicone. Underneath the silicone and in one section of the outside is ABS plastic. The cap is made of ABS plastic with silver plating and the button is made of stainless alloy. All of the materials are body safe. You should use only water based lubes due to the silicone material.

Since the silicone makes up most of the toy, let’s discuss that. The silicone is firm as it wraps around a hard interior. There’s no give at all to it. It’s very smooth with no drag, but it doesn’t have the velvety feel of some silicone toys. There’s a seam down the middle that is ever so slightly visible. The silicone doesn’t seem to collect lint terribly. I’m not really sure how I feel about the silicone. It’s nice and all, but it’s not the best I’ve seen.

There are three small waves of texture on both sides of Nyx. As this toy seems to lend itself to external over internal use, I’m not sure I fully understand the point of this. They go in only a small amount, so even if you were using this internally you likely wouldn’t feel it.

SIZE

Nyx Measurements

Nyx is 5″ in total length. The diameter at the widest point is 1.25″. The circumference is 3 7/8″.

The size is bizarre to me. It’s much thicker and longer than the majority of external toys (I’m thinking bullets, Tango, Salsa, MiMi, etc.). It’s not large enough to really do much internally though. It’s an in between size that leaves me confused.

Nyx in Hand

You can see the size in my hand for reference. As you can see, it’s big and small all at once. See, confusing. The girth is about a finger and a half wide. The length goes from the tip of my finger to right above the middle of my palm.

I found the size makes Nyx awkward to hold. Have you ever seen one of those ridiculous jumbo joke pens? Holding this reminds me of trying to write with one of those. It just doesn’t feel right, takes up too much space in my hands, and generally makes doing stuff with it more difficult.

DESIGN

Nyx Design

Even though the size is larger, the design is pretty much a bullet. Just a big one. The tip comes to a point and then widens. From there it stays the same size the whole way down. Nyx does look different than many bullets because it features the wave texture on each side. It also has the bit of clear plastic in one section. I must admit, it does look pretty.

BATTERY

Nyx Battery

The base of Nyx unscrews. It’s here that the battery is inserted. It takes one AA battery which is not included. The battery slides in easily, but getting the cap back on is a major pain. You have to get it in some special spot and then screw it. I can’t ever get it on the first shot. Usually it’s shot number five or six that I get the cap on.

Some of the Key line has issues with the battery getting stuck in it. Nyx doesn’t have this problem. The battery slides right out if you tilt it.

OPERATING

Nyx Button

The button is located in the base. It has the Key logo on it. It’s very easy to press, which has left some people with the problem of hitting the button accidentally during use. I must hold mine weird because my hand isn’t anywhere near the button when I use it. I haven’t had it accidentally change settings, but I do think it’s worth mentioning that some people may encounter this.

The push button operation is simple to use. Press once to turn on. Press again to change the setting. Hold for two seconds to turn off. There is no memory feature, so it starts at the first setting whenever you turn it on.

VIBRATIONS AND PATTERNS

Nyx has five settings on it. They are as follows:

Nyx Patterns

Constant vibration. There is only one power option for the constant vibration setting which is called “high” on Jopen’s graphic. It’s 3/5 in intensity, but on the higher end of 3. Jopen lists the decibel level at 32dB. In simple terms, it’s about 2.5/5 in noise level. It’s not super loud nor super quiet.

High 2 - Not sure why this is called High 2. It’s a very fast pulsing pattern.

Tease – Switches from a lower power setting (not available as a constant) to the “high” setting.

Pulse – Moderate pulse.

Throb – Two moderate pulses followed by three quick ones.

The big reason I was so excited for Key is because of how much I like the luxury Jopen line vibrations. I was expecting Key to have similar vibrations. This is not the case. The vibrations are moderate. They fall somewhere in between buzzy and rumbly, slight lean toward rumbly. The luxury line is super rumbly, which is also what I was expecting from Key. I’m really disappointed in the vibrations.

The luxury Jopen line doesn’t have patterns available, but Key does. I guess they got overwhelmed figuring out patterns because they left out the usual “high, medium, low” settings that are standard on most toys. There’s only one power option. I’m not a fan of toys that do this because it has potential to leave out a good portion of users. Those who prefer mild vibrations don’t have a setting that will work and those that need power don’t either. If you like patterns, however, maybe you’ll like this.

COMPARING

Charms Curve, Nyx, Io

There are a lot of options in Key as far as external toys go. I purchased the Charms Curve and Io around the same time as I got Nyx for review. Charms Curve is slimmer than Io and Nyx, but about the same length. Io has two interchangeable silicone sleeves, which really just prove to be useless.

The vibrations just plain suck on Curve and Io. They’re both weak and buzzy. Using either of these just pissed me off. Nyx is stronger than the other two and more rumbly. While I’m not impressed with Nyx’s strength, it is by far the best of the three options. Is that a full endorsement for Nyx? Hardly. If you’re dead set on getting one of these three though, go with Nyx.

NYX IN USE

I expected this line to be great or at least good. While I’ve had good luck with Key’s internal toys, the external ones are a big letdown. I need a lot of power externally and Nyx just doesn’t come through in that department. While I didn’t feel like throwing this across the room or in the trash like I did with Charms Curve and Io, I was nowhere near satisfied. Only a few moments in each use and I grew frustrated and switched to something else.

Aside from the vibrations being meh, I’m not a fan of the weird size. It’s uncomfortable for me to hold and use. Another issue is how long it takes me to get the battery cap on, but since I’m not opening it all that often it’s less of an issue than the other things.

RECOMMENDATION

If you prefer moderate vibrations or patterns, perhaps. It’s not the best vibrator out there, but it’s not the worst either. If you need power go ahead and keep looking. You won’t find it here. If you’re dead set on getting one of the external Key options, this is the only one I would try. The others are completely worthless.

IN CONCLUSION

Perhaps because I tried Charms Curve and Io first, I can’t call Nyx a total failure. If I had just tried this one I might have been more pissed over the problems I have with it. Since Charms Curve and Io take the cake for being the worst, I’m going a bit easier on Nyx. Where Charms Curve and Io are not likely to work for anyone, there are some people that may like Nyx. If you like middle of the road vibrations, it may be perfect. For me it falls into the “meh” category, thus my rating.

Rating: 3/5
Intensity: 3/5
Noise: 2.5/5 (rounded down to 2/5)

Pros: Pretty, Somewhat rumbly vibrations, Nice packaging, Pattern options
Cons: Vibrations not strong enough, Battery cap hard to put on, Weird size

As the year comes to a close, it’s time to reflect. For me that means looking back at the best and worst sex toys. Hopefully you’ll find this list helpful when making buying decisions in the future. I’ve tried to keep the list to only things that have been released this year, not to things I tried this year. That way it’s more updated. I might have made a few mistakes on release dates though, so if some aren’t new this year, please pardon the error. As always, I suck at being concise. It’s a long list. I apologize in advance!

BDSM

Best

Icon Brands branched out into BDSM, releasing a beautiful line of glass accented toys. The glass makes the handle of the Fashionistas Riding Crop is heavier than most, a fact my husband was quite fond of. It produces a good amount of impact while looking stunning. It has little fairies etched into the glass and I just can’t help but love it. Available from SheVibe for $39.99.

Agreeable Agony specializes in bondage rope. Sure, you can get rope from lots of big names, but they don’t come close to the quality of this brand. As an added bonus, it comes in a HUGE variety of colors and sizes. There’s even Hogwarts Houses colors available, making my inner geek squee with delight. You can purchase it direct from Agreeable Agony. Price varies depending on size.

Worst

I love dildos made of metal, so it only made sense that I would love sparkly metal nipple clamps. Wrong! The Metal Worx Clamps are almost impossible for me to put on. When I do finally get them on the magnets push it off in the not so fun pain type of way. Most of the reviews I’ve read have echoed this. Available from SheVibe for $32.99.

VIBRATORS

Best

LELO has had Lyla in their line for a while, but this year they released a second version – Lyla 2. It’s a remote vibrator that works with Sense Motion. This means you can tilt the controller to change vibration strength. The vibrations are stronger than other remote vibrators and the range is good. Lyla 2 is fun for both partners to use since it’s interactive. Available from SheVibe for $119.99.

So everyone pretty much knows I love all things Jopen. This year there were a ton of new releases from them. The Vr6.5 is one in the .5 series that I really like. It has strong, rumbly vibrations and actually fits my anatomy. The shape should allow it to fit most users, a big plus. Available from SheVibe for $134.99.

Another stand out in the .5 series is the Vr4.5. This one has a fluttering sensation on the clit. I wasn’t sure that it would work for me as I prefer pressure. I was pleasantly surprised when I fell in love with this one. Again featuring strong, rumbly vibrations. Available from SheVibe for $134.99.

I know, I know. There’s a lot of Jopen on this list. The Vr15, Vr16, and Vr17 are the most recent releases in the luxury line. I have the Vr15 and it’s now one of my all time favorites. The clit arm is actually really strong. Since many rotating rabbits seem to fall in the trap of weak clit arms, this is a big deal. This is officially the first rotating rabbit I love. Available from SheVibe for $149.99.

I bet you were starting to think everything good this year cost a fortune, huh? Not so! Bgood released an updated version of the Bgood – the Bgood Deluxe. For a cheap vibrator, this has pretty strong vibrations. It won’t break the bank either, making it an ideal choice for someone starting out and learning their preferences. Available from SheVibe for $25.49.

Worst

After loving the Lyla 2, I decided to take a chance with their C shaped vibrator (sans remote) – Noa. Rather than the good vibrations of the Lyla 2, Noa is very weak. It also doesn’t stay in place at all, rendering it pretty much useless. It’s meant to be worn during sex, but the times I used it I was so involved in putting it back in place that I couldn’t enjoy the actual sex. Available from SheVibe for $89.99.

Fun Factory makes great, unique toys. This year came FOU, an external vibrator that looks like an egg with a cutout at the top. Unlike many Fun Factory toys, this one is crazy weak. The motor might be strong in there, but it’s surrounded by such thick silicone that you’d never notice. Easily tops my most hated toys list. Available from SheVibe for $99.99.

The Rock Box launched, claiming to be more powerful than the Hitachi. It may be strong (I’m doubtful that it’s more so than the Hitachi, however), but it makes a terrible rocking motion rather than actually vibrating. It’s also gigantic and loud as hell. It comes with a male attachment and my husband didn’t seem any more impressed than I was. Available from SheVibe for $119.99.

We-Vibe makes two of my all time favorite toys – Salsa and Tango. When they released Thrill, a C shaped vibe for solo use listing the same RPMs as those two I got super excited. What I ended up getting was a disappointment to say the least. The strength is nowhere near the power of Salsa/Tango. It’s also top heavy, meaning if you let go of the too small handle it will flip over. Total fail from a company that can do better. Available from SheVibe for $159.99.

Key is the new, affordable line launched by Jopen just recently. Given that three of my top vibrators of the year are made by this company, I expected a lot from Key. While the internal vibrators I have from the line are pretty good, the external toys are a complete waste. Io is one of these. It doesn’t have the same vibrations as the Jopen luxury line. Instead it’s buzzy and weak. Available from SheVibe for $39.99.

Charms Curve is another external vibrator in the Key line. It’s a tough call on which is worse out of this and Io. Again, weak and buzzy vibrations. Sure, it’s cheaper than the luxury Jopen line, but sometimes the extra money is worth it. The failure of the Key external toys may be my heartbreak of the year. Available from SheVibe for $29.99.

Best

When I was given Tantus’ new Splish for review, I was concerned. If you follow my reviews, you’ll know I’m not big on textured toys. They tend to hurt my insides. Since Splish is very tiny, I figured I might be able to use it. The first time I used it I knew I adored it. Finally – texture I can handle! It’s small size may not make it ideal for all, however. Available from SheVibe for $39.99.

Splish was released with a larger sibling – Splash. They feature the same wonderful texture, just in different sizes. There’s a large size difference which sorta leaves people who prefer an average size out. If you like bigger toys, Splash is the one you should pick of these two. Available from SheVibe for $64.99.

Another new Tantus toy this year is the O2 Max. O2 is Tantus’ dual density silicone, making it feel much more life-like than regular silicone. Max is a large toy, both long and thick. While I have some other O2 toys, this is easily my favorite. Available from SheVibe for $74.99.

Jollies was a beloved sex toy company a few years back. Then suddenly they shut down, leaving many depressed over the loss. This year the Jollet made a comeback in the form of Chavez Designz. I never got a Jollet the first time around, but now I know what all the fuss was about. The shape looks odd, but fits inside me perfectly. Bonus points for filling it with polka dots and other fun combos. Available from Chavez Designz for $59.99 and up, depending on how it’s decorated.

Vamp Silicone is a small company that gets a lot of buzz on sex toy blogs. One of my first purchases from their line was the Giorgio. I have the Soft Skin version of it. I can’t put into words how much I love their Soft Skin. Sometimes hard silicone will cause me discomfort. No problems with this super soft silicone. I also love the pretty blue color it comes in (with silver swirls) and how girthy it is. Available from SheVibe for $79.99.

I debated getting the Joplin (also from Vamp Silicone) for a while. It’s just outside my comfort zone on big toys. Since I was working my way to bigger toys, I finally took the plunge on this. The Soft Skin makes the size doable for me. It’s the biggest dildo I can use on a regular basis and one of my go to toys when I want a full feeling. Available from SheVibe for $94.99.

NobEssence has had the market on wooden sex toys for a long time. This year Penetralia came on the scene with a whole line of wooden toys. Of the ones I’ve tried, the Number 28 is my favorite. I didn’t really know how the telephone shape would play out. The result? It hits my G-spot with ease. That’s no small accomplishment given how picky my G-spot is. Available from SheVibe for $140.00

Crystal Delights specializes in stunning glass toys. The Crystal Twist was redesigned late this year with a touch of color added to the glass. The Twist feels unlike any other toy I own. I’m a fan of twisting sensations, so it comes as no surprise that this made it onto my list. It also has a large, sparkly crystal that makes girly me very happy. Available from Crystal Delights for $114.95.

Vixen is the company that makes my all time favorite dildo material – VixSkin. It’s a dual density silicone that feels incredibly lifelike. While I’m a huge fan of the way realistic dildos feel, I’ve never cared for the way they look. The skin tones are not my thing. A wonderful thing happened this year. The Mustang and Maverick were released in neon colors! I had the Maverick already and went with the Mustang. It’s a perfect size for regular use and it looks freaking cool. Available from SheVibe for $99.99.

As much as I hated the external Key toys, they did manage to knock it out of the park with Comet. It’s reminiscent of the now discontinued Ophoria Beyond 1 and 2, both favorites of mine. Comet is one of the few toys that hits my G-spot. It also has just the right amount of weight to it. I have mine in the blue option and it’s a gorgeous color to boot. Available from SheVibe for $69.99.

IN CLOSING

That’s it folks! The best and worst toys that 2012 brought us. Compiling this list just made me realize how very, very many toys I tested out this year. The things I do for you guys.

Now let’s all lift our champagne glasses and toast to even better sex toys to come in 2013!
