About Kira’s Ratings and Reviews

Welcome to my Ratings and Reviews page!  Here you’ll find all the info on my reviews from a disclosure to a breakdown on how my star ratings work.

Disclosure

Some of the products on this site have been provided to me in exchange for an honest review.  Rest assured that this will never alter my review in any way.  You can trust that I will review a product exactly as I find it to be – negative or positive.

Sponsored reviews will have a disclaimer at the bottom of the post stating that the product was received for free in exchange for a review.  This keeps me within FTC Guidelines.  Products I purchase myself will not have this disclosure.  I will usually link to a site the product is available for purchase with affiliate links.

On that note, I do use affiliate links on this site.  Affiliate links earn me a percent of the sales made from them.  Since I’m not working, the best way for you to say “thanks” if you enjoy my reviews is by buying through these links.

I also accept paid advertising in the form of a rare sponsored post or sidebar ads.  These can be either text or images.  Advertising companies have no influence on the reviews here.

My Reviews

Hi, I’m Kira.  I write sex toy reviews.  I started writing them because I enjoy writing and I enjoy sex, so things just logically came together.  I’ve stuck with it because I feel like it makes a difference in people’s lives.  I know that sounds silly, but a good sex life can make you happy even if life is terrible otherwise.  Having the right toys can enhance a good sex life or bring life to one that may not have been there before.  In my own small way, I’m making the world a better place by helping people find the toy that’s right for them.

I write my reviews as detailed as possible.  I do my very best to answer every possible question that someone may have about a product from material to size to how it performs.  My reviews tend to be lengthy because of this, but hopefully once you read them I’ll have managed to answer most if not all of the questions you had about a product before reading the review.  I also do everything in sections so you can skim to the info you’re interested in.  If you still have a question on a product, you can always contact me or comment and I’ll be happy to answer.  In fact, please do so that I’ll know what I forgot to include!

I try my best to be objective in my reviews and say who a toy may or may not work for.  However, I will flat out tell you if something sucked.  I may try to find a redeeming feature or two in there, but trust me – you’ll know it sucked.  If I don’t like it but think someone else might, I’ll be sure to say exactly why that is.  On the flip side, you’ll also know when I love something.  When that happens, I still list out who it won’t work for so you don’t end up with something not suited to you just ’cause I was gushing over it.

My Ratings

While I absolutely hate picking the little rating that you see at the bottom of my reviews, for the time being I will continue to do so.  It seems that people find this helpful, so I will keep on stressing myself out over the star ratings until I can’t deal anymore.  (I’m indecisive and it forces a final opinion on something, in case you’re wondering why they stress me out so much.)

A five star product is one that exceeds all expectations I had of it or is otherwise a seriously amazing performer.  This is a product that is highly recommended (so long as it suits your preferences) and something I would classify as a top pick.  Five star products can have minor flaws.  I understand things can’t be perfect.  Those flaws need to be very minor and cannot detract from the performance of the product.

A four star product is a good or even great performer with something that holds it back from being at the top of my list.  Sometimes it’s a minor flaw that detracts from performance.  Sometimes it’s just that something didn’t suit me personally as much as I would have liked.  Four star products are still recommended, but not as highly as a five star product.

A three star product is average.  It’s not good and not bad.  Three star products usually don’t get used again after I review them.  An important note on three star reviews:  Three stars is the highest rating I will give to a product that I cannot orgasm with.  If something is great quality, material, design, etc., but does nothing for me personally it will usually get three stars as long as I can see that there’s potential for it to work for others.

A two star product is where we start to get to bad products.  Either more major design flaws or things that make it so that the product just won’t work for lots of people.  Things that don’t work for me and likely won’t work for many end up getting two stars if the quality was high.  Basically, bad products that didn’t fall apart.

A one star product is junk.  You shouldn’t buy it and I’ll probably tell you why at length.  I try not to hand these out too often if possible, but sometimes junk gets made so that’s what it’s there for.  Things that are falling apart, have serious flaws, or simply won’t work for anyone get one star.

I rate based on my personal experience with the product.  This means that if something failed to make me orgasm, it automatically gets a lower ranking no matter how great it may be made.  When deciding on a product to buy, you should rely more on the text portion of the review than the star rating as what I find pleasurable and what you do may turn out to be very different things.  I will always try to point out who a toy will and won’t work for in the body of the review, usually in a separate section so it’s easy to find.  What is a three star toy to me may be five stars to you.  One star products and many two star products aside, the actual review should be more important than the little numbers at the bottom.

Have any other questions on my process?  Suggestions on how to improve my reviews?  Contact me!  I believe that a person can never stop getting better, so let me know!  The site is only good if it’s helpful to readers.  If there’s something I should be including that I’m not, don’t be afraid to tell me.  Do make sure that what you have to say is constructive.  Telling me I suck or something like that won’t help me to improve.
